KURT REICHERT
"IN LICHT UND SONNE"
("IN LIGHT AND SUN")
German "naturist" Kurt Reichert's images of men and women running, swimming, boating and playing on the beach were published in 1935, during a time when photographers such as Herbert List, George Hoyningen-Huene, Boris Ignatovich, George Platt Lynes, The Ritter Bros, George Daniel, Leni Riefenstahl, Raymond Voinquel, and Gerhard Riebicke were beginning to explore the human figure.
Often these images of the 1930's incorporated outdoor scenes, sports, nudist camps and more exotic atmospheres than those of the studio based photographs that came before. As discussed in David Leddick's book "The Male Nude", post WWI German military thought nudity was healthy and that both exercise and sunlight would help to strengthen the body and mind.
We hope you enjoy this exhibition of vintage images.
