Artist's Statement:
Through the process of application and elimination, gradually, layers of color build creating depth and translucency. The mediums used here incorporate Oil, dry pigments, wax and graphite. The tools I use are somewhat clumsy and awkward keeping the painting loose and challenging. I do this purposely so as to not get too precious with any particular area of the painting.
Similar to that of thread to fabric, drawing to painting, the spiritual and physical become the catalyst of my exploration and study into the human condition. By taking the figure and removing all that is familiar to me, seeking the soul -- the true essence -- I'm left with something that has a much deeper grasp of reality -- the human spirit.
